Two different uses for this term exist: a) The total cost linked to the purchase, operation, and disposal of a product (equivalent to "Total Cost of Ownership" (TCO)) b) The cost of a product or service over its entire life cycle including external costs (see "Externalities").
Total cost of ownership
The total costs to own a product throughout its life, including the costs of purchase, operation, maintenance, and potential waste fees.
